Performance
A performance surfboard is a board designed for advanced surfers to perform aggressive maneuvers, fast turns, and high-speed surfing by incorporating features like thinner rails, more rocker, and a refined bottom contour. These design elements enable greater responsiveness and control in powerful waves, but they are less forgiving than beginner boards.
- Outline: Often narrower with a pointed nose, which reduces drag and allows for tighter turns.
- Rocker: More pronounced (curved) bottom curve, allowing the board to turn quickly and smoothly, especially in steep or powerful waves.
- Rails: Thinner and sharper, particularly at the tail, which "bites" into the wave for better hold during turns and barrels.
- Volume: Typically lower volume, requiring more skill and commitment from the rider to paddle and generate speed.
- Bottom contours: Modern designs often feature concaves (single or double) to help with speed and control.
